Thanks for stopping by.
You may have noticed the three short phrases that are at the bottom of this blog’s header. Ask questions. Share insight. Debate the issues. That’s what I would like this blog to be about. We’re facing so many challenges today, from the changing markets and the economy, to evolutions in technologies, I thought it would be good idea to have a place where we could conduct a dialogue about what our situations are, and what we want to do about them.
I was inspired to create this blog after attending the last FAVAH (Film and Video Association of Hawaii) event, at the end of 2008. Shortly thereafter, the e-mail list serve was activated — but it soon became clear that there needed to be an alternative way to correspond with the FAVAH community as a whole. People were complaining about getting too many e-mails, and off topic e-mails, etc. I figured a blog might be a good way to communicate, since people can visit and participate at their leisure, and not worry about their inboxes filling up.
That is not to say that this is an official, sponsored, or sanctioned FAVAH blog. I just want to make that clear. This is NOT an offical FAVAH blog.
It’s a blog by me, for you — that’s all.
There will be occasional news items, but for local industry news, there are other blogs out there better situated to handle the weekly announcements, like Tim Ryan’s Reel Hawaii. He keeps it up to date, and interesting.
This blog is more about perspective, opinion, and insight — your perspectives, opinions, and insights. The blog is an opportunity to dialogue with others like yourselves, and see what is going on with them, and what they’re doing to try and make it in this crazy business.
I encourage you to register, and post. If you’ve got any ideas for posts, or you would like to contribute a post of your own, drop me a line here, or you can e-mail me at beau800@gmail.com.
Ask questions. Share insights. Debate the issues.
Thanks for taking the time to read through, and hope you enjoy the blog.

Jason,
Thanks for taking a look. I know you’re busy with the new addition to your family ( congrats by the way) but when you have the chance, let me knwo what’s going on with you and what your agenda is as a new board memeber of FAVAH. Take care…
Hi Beau,
Good idea, thank you.
I’m curious what has been going on in the legislature. I had sent in support faxes but wasn’t able to attend last week. Looking forward to hear what’s happening with act 88….and what else we can do.
Wishing you all well. Aloha,
Naomi
cool forum.
Hope it gets a crowd.
Love films and movies.
Is this a gathering place for television people or movie people or both?
Bars and tones is television right?
the ever learning
Darieus
Thanks for dropping by Darieus. I hope that this becomes a gathering place for everyone, really, tv and film people. Feel free to suggest a post topic, or submit a post of your own, if you have something on your mind.
Okay, I just read the opening paragraph and i realize my last post was pretty self explained. woops.
Speaking of issues, has anyone seen the film Cinema Paradiso? My number one favorite movie ever. A lot of the camera work reminds me of Scorcese films, italian cinema has such a distinct style to it. Just look at Francis ford Coppollas work, very similar direction to scoresese.
anyone else like Guiseppe T.?
Is there anyone in the film/video business who HASN’T seen “Cinema Paradiso?” It’s a classic. The year it came out, somebody (I think maybe it was Dennis Burns) gave everyone a copy of the film for Christmas. I still have my copy
This is such a terrific idea. I, too, am wondering what is happening to Act 88. I testified for this legislation way back when it first began and then again when they raised the percentage of tax incentive. It’s brought in so much good work to our local industry. I can’t believe these idiots don’t get it!!
I sent in my testimony but couldn’t be at the hearing. Was anybody there to report on the mood of the room?
Mucho mahalos for making this happen,

Bo,
Great idea! Good on you. Hope to contribute something, maybe the kupuna camera guy viewpoint.
Mahalo,
Mike M
Thanks Mike. Any time you want to suggest a post topic, or post something of your own, let me know
Aloha, Thanks for giving us another opportunity to discuss issues related to our community.
I wanted to share an article I read today in the NY Times regarding the industry at their legislature regarding incentives. Very timely as we are awaiting our own outcome of act 88 and 221. I believe you may have to be registered to read online. Here is the link

I would be curious to hear your response to this.
Thanks, Marilyn
Thanks for giving the heads up on the article. I decided to add a post about it. It’s an interesting problem we’re facing, and i’m looking froward to seeing what kind of solutions people will come up with.
